Lord Chancellor Liz Truss has today launched a six-week consultation to review the framework under which the personal injury discount rate is set. The paper considers the possibilities for how, when and by who the discount rate should be set, but does not make specific proposals. It also considers whether sufficient use is being made of periodical payment orders. In a response to the launch of this consultation, APIL president Neil Sugarman said: “It was very important that the rate was reduced because people with serious, life-changing injuries were not receiving the compensation they desperately need."
